Prerequisite: Minimum of three semesters of Acting at NSHA

5th Grade Acting is an advanced-level class designed for students who have completed at least three semesters of acting at NSHA and participated in the Spring 2025 Final Production. This course is ideal for committed young actors ready to take their theatrical training to the next level.

Taught by professional theater artists Elyse Price (MFA, American Conservatory Theater, 2014), Joel Bernard (American Conservatory Theater, 2015), and Thomas Stagnitta (MFA, American Conservatory Theater, 2016), this class offers a deeper exploration of performance and play production.

Students will learn to:

  • Audition with confidence and professionalism
  • Analyze and develop characters through in-depth study and memorization
  • Strengthen performance skills through stage movement, voice and diction, stage directions, choreography, and stage combat
  • Expand script analysis skills by exploring objectives, context, and given circumstances
  • Enhance stage presence and teamwork through ensemble-building exercises and improvisation
  • Explore advanced theatrical conventions, including breaking the fourth wall and magical realism

The semester will culminate in a live staged performance, where students will bring their hard work and creativity to the stage in front of family and friends.  Students will complete daily, monthly and semester-long activities and accountability logs so they can track their progress and growth

This class fosters artistic growth, discipline, and confidence, empowering our young performers to shine both on and off the stage.
