We encourage reading throughout the school year and especially over the summer when we are outside of school. It is essential to develop the habit of reading and challenging oneself with new and exhilarating authors who foster the thirst for active reading. New York State recommends that middle school students read a minimum of 25 books a year. Some of the titles we have included in our 7th and 8th Grade Fiction and Non-Fiction Book Lists are also wonderful reads for adults and would afford the opportunity for you to bond with your child while reading and discussing these beautifully crafted texts.
In addition, there is an expectation that students will have working knowledge of essential vocabulary deemed necessary by the middle school faculty. In order to ensure this, we have attached a grade specific vocabulary packet that is meant to review terminology to which students have been previously exposed in the classroom.
Below please find grade level reading assignments and vocabulary posted by the English department for the summer of 2020. These books can be purchased at the NSHA Virtual Book Fair which begins on June 14, 2020.
