Junior class members Abigail Mottahedeh and Ella Shusterman have been named 2021 Long Island Science & Engineering Fair (LISEF) Special Award Winners. The Society for In Vitro Biology (SIVB) presented Abigail and Ella’s project titled “Synergistic Effect of Rhamnolipids and Antibiotics against Bacteria” with a Certificate of Outstanding Ability and Creativity. The SIVB recognized their experiment specifically because of its unique research.

Additionally, Abigail and Ella’s research paper has been selected to be published in the Journal of Student Research (JSR) which is an academic, multidisciplinary, and faculty-reviewed journal devoted to the rapid dissemination of current research published by high school, undergraduate, and graduate students.  The selection of the paper is a testament to Abigail and Ella’s well executed research which has been identified as valuable to the academic community.

We are proud that Abigail and Ella have pursued their scientific interests, achieving accomplishments reserved for professionals in the field. I thank Ms. Merideth McCarthy for her guidance and leadership and encourage students interested in a rigorous scientific research program to speak with Ms. McCarthy or any of our students in this program.

Congratulations to Abigail and Ella on this tremendous achievement and thank you for making NSHAHS proud.
