Physical Education

A healthy mind in a healthy body is our goal for all students. There are two divisions in the Health and Physical Education Department.

The general objective of the Physical Education Division is to provide an exciting and challenging program that increases the interest of our students in physical activity and promotes lifelong fitness. Specifically, we want to produce physically fit emerging adults, to teach the relationship between physical activity, physical fitness, and health, to promote the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that will enable students to lead active, healthy, and productive lives.

The Physical Education program offers instruction in individual, team, and co-educational and lifetime activities. Students are challenged through various vigorous, supervised physical activities. These are used as a means of guiding our students through successive stages in the development of organized strength, physical fitness, and efficient, graceful body control. Each student will develop: organic vigor, strength, and endurance; neuromuscular coordination agility, balance, and flexibility by body movement, good muscle tone and cardiovascular efficiency; efficient body mechanics and good posture; skills and self-preservation techniques such as running, dodging, and pulling; and will have experiences which will yield mental hygiene benefits such as the joy of achievement and accomplishment and the pleasure of effective participation in the American sports culture.
