Writing & Study Skills Program

To thrive in high school and beyond, every student must learn how to learn. That means figuring out who they are as thinkers, readers, and writers, and building on their strengths to help them succeed.

In ninth grade, students learn that each class has different expectations and requirements. The Writing and Study Skills Program guides students to flex to new teaching styles, read rubrics, understand homework assignments and essay prompts, and break down group projects.

Students dive into strengthening their writing skills with the goal of confidently tackling any paper or project assigned to them in the future. They create strong thesis statements and build structured, logical essays based on independent research. They come to understand the importance of citing their sources in a bibliography, quoting other people’s work properly, and their ethical requirements as writers.

As they learn, students grow to take pride in their strengths and work to identify their areas of improvement. They practice asking for help and advice from trusted teachers, peers and advisors as they build a system of studying that will empower them throughout their entire academic career.
