Tarbut

Learning may begin in the classroom – but with New York City nearby, it comes to life in a multitude of ways.

Tarbut, which is the Hebrew word for culture, enables students to immerse themselves in vibrant cultural exploration and enrichment. Inspired by what students are learning in school, the news, cultural events, and student interest, Tarbut experiences open students’ eyes to the greater world. Previous Tarbut trips have included:

  • Visits to the United Nations Security Council and Diplomatic Missions.
  • Immersive museum, art, and fashion exhibitions at the Museo del Barrio, American Museum of Natural History, Museum of TV and Radio, Pier 36, and the Fashion Institute of Technology
  • Corporate industry experiences
  • Musicals and plays in Yiddish at the National Yiddish Theater Folksbeine
  • Guided historic walking tours of iconic neighborhoods, including Harlem and the Lower East Side
  • Backstage tours at the Metropolitan Opera
  • Rehearsal sit-ins at Lincoln Center
  • Hip-hop dance and culture workshops
  • Broadway Shows
  • Lectures with industry experts at the 92nd Street Y

Students may sign up for three Tarbut experiences per year.
