Personal Guidance

“Working at North Shore has been my dream position. I appreciate the school’s high academic standards and their ability to maintain concern for each child as a whole person. Every student has the opportunity to be heard, to choose their own path - there's room for a unique experience for every single student.”

- Ms. Jenna Zelka, LMSW - Instructor of Tanach, School Social Worker

Each student is unique; just as the academic program is tailored to individual needs, so are the goals of personal guidance at NSHAHS. Our overall goal is to promote optimal social emotional health and well being while achieving academic excellence.

We meet with each student as he or she enters the school as a freshman and they are assigned to a dean who follows them throughout their high school experience.

All students and their parents know that if they need advice or guidance about social, emotional, or academic and learning issues, a licensed psychologist as well as a mental health counselor are available at NSHAHS.

The personal guidance team may also assist with crisis intervention, stress reduction programs and beyond the classroom experiences in topics related to mental health. When deemed necessary and appropriate, outside referrals to mental health professionals are made to the parents with the knowledge of the student involved.

The administration, faculty and staff work together as a team to focus and promote the well being of each student.
