Early Childhood

Toddler, Nursery, Pre-K, Kindergarten

Our Early Childhood classes establish a foundation of social skills and pre-literacy in a warm, nurturing environment. By Kindergarten, our students emerge as confident readers. Our teachers create spaces that encourage our children to learn, develop, and feel confident about their abilities. At NSHA, students become independent learners, explore their Jewish identity and practice personal creativity and expression.

Hebrew language immersion gives our young learners quick fluency in Ivrit. Students learn about the weekly parasha and the chagim. Our curriculum is enriched with many specialty classes, including yoga, music, science, and physical education. To encourage creativity and confidence when participating in art projects, we supply our students with high-quality mediums and diverse choices of shapes and colors. We display their projects with respect and care to show our children how much we value their work.

Special programming is robust, and includes a visit from the Matzah Factory for Pesach; pony rides at the petting zoo for Lag B’Omer; eating ice cream from the ice cream truck to reinforce the letter “i”; a trip to the supermarket to learn about food groups and brachot; a visit from a petting zoo; a behind-the-scenes tour of a puppet theater in which students learn how puppets are made and then create their own; and much more.

Through our enrichment program’s iPad lab, students explore the world beyond school while teaching early computer literacy. Students leave Early Childhood well prepared for the Elementary School years.

Our Early Childhood Learning and Enrichment Specialist works with every student individually and in small groups.  Additionally, she serves as a resource for conducting testing and evaluations, managing referrals for services and advocating for our Early Childhood students  at CPE and CPSE meetings with the Great Neck School District.
